Chenggong Fishing Port

Chenggong Fishing Port is a place where you can buy fresh fish and also take a closer look to see the fishing culture in Taitung. It is one of the biggest ports in Taitung. 

Every day from 14:15 to 16:00, there is a large fish market, which sells a massive amount of fish that have just been caught in the ocean.

“Visiting the harbor gives you a sense of being abroad with the beautiful mountains and the harbor wall,” said Shuhui Lai, a visitor to the port.

Captains and fishermen are all working hard and seem tired, especially the fishermen, most of whom are from Southeast Asia, working on the boat throughout the year.

“I have worked on the boat since I was 13,” said one of the captains at Chenggong Fishing Port. “Now I’m 35 years old. I spent my whole life on the boat, from fisherman to captain.”

During the bidding at the market, the most popular fish is swordfish. More swordfish are sold at Chenggong Fishing Port than at any other port in Taitung. Owners of seafood restaurants, or even citizens shopping for their dinner often come to the fish market to buy fish that is fresher and cheaper than what they can buy in the supermarket.
