Huatung Choir Camp

Huatung Choir Camp is an annual summer camp held at Junyi High School for students in Grade 7 to 10 who want to practice their singing and acting. The event is hosted by two organizations, the Alliance Cultural Foundation and Harvest 365 Foundation.

“We hope that students who attend the camp will return in the future to volunteer,” said Howard Chung, the founder of the camp.

This is the fifth year of this activity. Chung invited other teachers from Taiwan and Indonesia to teach students. There are also volunteers from different universities. It took half a year to prepare and plan lots of activities.

The volunteers had to arrive at school before the camp started in order to give the campers a great summer camp between July 4th and 15th.

“It’s such a wonderful experience,” said Scarlett Chung, who volunteered this year for the third time. “We just sing all day.”

At the end of the camp, a concert was held to perform what the students learned during the camp.

"We not only learn how to sing at the camp, but also how to immerse yourself in music,” said Jack Lin, who also volunteered at the camp for two years. “During the camp, you can find self-confidence here and also feel love and acceptance.”

“Children are born as singers,” said Howard Chung. “You don’t need to teach them; music flows through their bodies.”
