The Chang Yuan Church

BY JACK LIN SEPTEMBER 20 , 2018

Visitors to Chang Yuan village might be surprised to find a church that looks like a boat. The sign on the side of the church indicates it was built to resemble Noah’s Ark from the Bible, but Puyang Sing, the priest of the church, suggests another meaning.

“It symbolizes the spirit of this tribe,” said Sing.

In 1990 there was a typhoon that destroyed the church. Tribe members rallied together and raised funds through voluntary donations and charity sale to rebuild the church, The new shape of the church represents the unsinkable spirit of the congregation.

The church has long played an important role in the community according to Mr. Lin , a devout Christian who lives in Chang Yuan village.

"When I was little, the church often held interesting activities for children, so I could understand the Christian belief and the history of the church better by joining those activities," said Mr. Lin.

The village children still appreciate what the church offers

“The atmosphere in this church is really good,” said William, a boy who goes to church every Sunday. “The tribe’s residents gather together to share what has happened and encourage each other.”

The church is open every Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Address: NO.671, Chang Yuan , Chang Bin Towntung County.
